Newborn Session Information
The best time to do newborn photoshoot?
Newborn sessions are typically most successful when the baby is between 8-20 days old. During this period, they are usually sleepier and more flexible, making posing easier. After 20 days, babies tend to be more awake and alert to their surroundings. Besides, babies at this stage may also start to develop colic or baby acne. They also start to have bigger bellies and chubbier legs, making certain poses, like the tuchie-up position or fitting into a bucket, more challenging.
However, if you’ve missed this ideal window, don’t hesitate to contact us. Although older babies may require more wrapping and swaddling, we can still capture beautiful images of your baby.
Props & Accessories:
We provide a wide variety of props, blankets, wraps, headbands, and hats for both boys and girls in an array of colors and shades. You don’t need to bring anything unless there are specific items you’d like included in the photos. Some clients choose to bring handmade blankets, quilts, or items embroidered with their baby’s name.
The Session:
The session can last up to 3 hours (depending on the package), including time for feeding, comforting, and rocking the baby back to sleep. Please ensure you bring enough milk to support your baby for at least 4-6 hours, as babies tend to feed more frequently during a newborn session.
If a family portrait is included in the session, we recommend that moms wear a sleeveless dress in earth-toned colors and dads wear a shirt or t-shirt in earth-toned colors as well. The studio temperature is set to approximately 24°C to 26°C to keep the baby warm and cozy, similar to the womb. This may feel quite warm for adults.
For an optimal shooting environment, we recommend not bringing any relatives or friends to the session. Fewer people in the studio create the best conditions for photography.
Baby safety is always our top priority. If we think the baby is not ready for a certain pose or appears too vulnerable, we will not proceed with that pose to ensure the baby's well-being.
Preparations prior to the session:
Full tummy during the session is very important for baby to fall into deep sleep. No matter if you are breast feed or bottle feed, please make sure your baby is fully fed. We strongly recommend for bottle feed with formula for full tummy, but if you prefer breast feed, bumping out to the bottle is recommended.
Your baby will be in nude for some of the poses during session, please bring plenty of wipes and diapers and another set of clothes and swaddle for baby. We also suggest bringing spare clothes for yourself in case baby poo/pee on you.
Blanket for snuggling: Bring a soft and cozy blanket for your baby to snuggle in between posing and during feeding breaks.
Pacifier can be the key to successful newborn session. Even if your baby doesn't typically use a pacifier, having one on hand during the session can help soothe them for a few minutes and shorten the session time.
Poses/Props Selections:
If you have any preference on props or poses that you want us to attempt, please let us know at least 2 days before the shooting day so that we can prepare. Any requests on shooting day will not be considered.
